O verbo to get (parte I)

O verbo get é utilizado de várias maneiras, porém quando se traduz para o português há diferentes entendimentos. Falaremos, então,  do verbo to get com denotação de mudança de estado, lugar ou situação.

Get + substantivo ( a letter/ a job, etc )  = receber, comprar, ir chamar, encontrar etc.:

You don’t have something       =     you get it     =            you have it.

-          Did you get my email? Yes, I got it two days ago.  Você recebeu…   Sim, eu recebi.

-          I like your new sunglasses. Where did you get it?        Onde você comprou?

-          Can you get me some mangos from the supermarket?  Você pode me trazer algumas mangas…?

-          (ao celular)' Hello, Is it George speaking?'   'One moment, I’ll get him.'  Vou chamá-lo.

-          We get wood from trees.               Obtemos madeira…

-          It’s difficult to get a job in Brazil.      Está difícil encontrar emprego…

É normal que se use get a bus/ get a train/ get a taxi (= pegar, tomar um ônibus, um trem, um taxi)

        ' Did you come here on foot?'   'No, I got an Uber.'

Get + adjetivo (get hungry/ get cold/ get tired etc.) = ficar, tornar-se + adjetivo.

You’re not hungry         =           you get hungry                     =                           you’re hungry

Esta construção corresponde a verbos em português, com frequência reflexivos ou derivados de adjetivos. Por exemplo:

get wet (molhar-se)                            get dressed (vestir-se)      get late (atrasar-se)

get cold (resfriar-se)                           get lost (perder-se)           get hungry (ficar com fome)

get drunk (embebedar-se)                   get married (casar-se)      get angry (ficar bravo) 

get tired ( cansar-se)                          get ready (aprontar-se)     get dark ( escurecer)

get better/worse (melhorar/piorar)        get hurt ( machucar-se)    get old (envelhecer)
